FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to experience The RISE?

Most people spend anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes on the trail.

What else is there to do at The RISE?

We'll have refreshments and a small gift shop!

Is parking free?

Parking is included in the service fee for your tickets. There will be no additional fees collected for parking when you arrive at The RISE.

Please note that there is a fee for parking at San Diego Zoo Safari Park during their normal business hours. If you visit San Diego Zoo Safari Park during that time you will have to pay for parking. Those who come after San Diego Zoo Safari Park's normal business hours for The RISE will not have to pay for parking.

Is The RISE scary?

The RISE is more of an art show, not a haunted event. The RISE is a bunch of really cool hand-carved illuminated jack o'lanterns with some really great music behind them! We do have some music that we consider "eerie" but not "scary". It is Halloween, you know! We think it's appropriate for children of all ages but only you can know if it's suitable for your child.

What happens if I'm running late?

If you're a little late for your time you will still be admitted in with your valid ticket.  There are no refunds or exchanges if you miss your date altogether.

How do you keep all of the pumpkins from rotting all month long?

We don't! Each week we have to replace the deceased jack o'lanterns with fresh ones. That's a lot of re-carving!

What happens if it rains?

The RISE is a rain or shine event. In cases of severe weather, we reserve the right to cancel the event and re-issue you a ticket for a different day and time. For more information about our weather policy, click here.

What is The RISE?

The RISE is a unique and iconic family friendly fall event featuring more than 5,000 hand-carved illuminated jack o'lanterns crafted by professional artists and sculptors and arranged in creative displays along a 1/3-mile scenic walking trail, all set to an original music score produced exclusively for The RISE! The new and exciting themes created for 2015 are sure to impress both RISE newbies and returning RISE fans. New themes this year include a safari with larger-than-life animals carved from dozens of jack o'lanterns, an auto show featuring classic cars that have been re-imagined in a gourd-geous new way, and a dragon that's over 50 feet long and contains hundreds of jacks! You'll also see our talented artists hand-paint and hand-carve the images of some of your favorite TV and movie stars into giant 100 pound pumpkins at our live carving station! Our well lit parking lots and trail make The RISE experience safe and exciting for visitors of all ages.

What do you do with all those pumpkin guts?

We recycle it all as green waste!

Can my 2 year old come for free?

Yes! All kids 2 years and under come free! Anyone 3 and older needs a Child, Adult, or Senior ticket. Please note that while kids 2 and under are free for entry to The RISE, they still require a ticket. If you purchased your tickets through our website you will need to select the free child 2 and under option for all children 2 and under in your party. Children 2 and under will be admitted without a ticket if you purchased your tickets through one of our 3rd party partners such as Groupon and Goldstar.

Can I take pictures?

Photography is permitted at The RISE however, for the safety of our guests, flash photography, tripods, monopods, and selfie sticks are prohibited. We find that a slow synch or nighttime setting is optimal when taking photos of our jack o’lanterns.

Can I bring my pet?

We love pets but, for their safety and for the safety of our guests, we do not permit them at The RISE. Only guide dogs for the blind and service animals for people with disabilities will be permitted at The RISE in accordance with ADA requirements.

Can I use my library pass?

The Old Westbury Gardens pass that you can get from your local library is not valid for The RISE. You must purchase a ticket.

Are all of your Jack O'Lanterns real pumpkins?

We use literally TONS of real pumpkins to make our Jack O'Lanterns. We also use carvable foam pumpkins, called Funkins, as well because they last longer. All 5,000 of our Jack O'Lanterns are hand-carved by our talented staff of carvers.

Is The RISE an indoor or outdoor event?

The RISE is an outdoor event. Be sure to dress appropriately for weather conditions!

Are wheelchairs allowed?

Wheelchairs are permitted at The RISE, though we do not supply them on-site. You will not be able to purchase additional tickets at this same rate, however, you can add any available regular priced general admission tickets you need to your cart in addition to the membership package you choose.
